Roughlock Falls South Dakota Viewpoint

Roughlock Falls in Spearfish Canyon near Lead, South Dakota is such a beautiful landcape with flowing waterfalls. Surrounded by the forested Black Hills, the cascading Little Spearfish Creek is surrounded by cliffs, moss-covered rocks, trees, and lush greenery. In the distance you can see the main taller waterfall in the shadows of the rock bluff. To the side you can see the wooden boardwalk where you can enjoy listening to the sounds of nature.

I captured this with a long exposure, to give the rushing water with a smooth, silky appearance as it moves through this picturesque canyon. The rich greens and golden tones of the surrounding vegetation add beautiful color and depth to the scene.

Roughlock Falls is a favorite destination for those exploring Spearfish Canyon and the Black Hills. Visitors can reach the falls by an easy half-mile walk from the nearby parking area or a longer two-mile round-trip trail following the creek.
