Roughlock Falls Flowing Cascades

There is something magical about watching the water of Little Spearfish Creek rush through this lush corner of the Black Hills. I captured this intimate view of the cascading waterfalls at Roughlock Falls near Lead, South Dakota, where numerous small cascades tumble over moss-covered rocks and weave through the vibrant greenery.

Using a long exposure, the flowing water features a soft, silky appearance as it moves across the rocky creek bed. The bold greens of the moss and vegetation contrast beautifully with the white rushing water, while a shadowy opening along the creek adds a touch of mystery and draws your eye deeper into the scene.

Standing beside the creek and hearing the constant movement of the water made this one of those moments I wanted to preserve. Roughlock Falls is one of the beloved natural in Spearfish Cnayon of South Dakota, making this photograph a beautiful choice for anyone who loves waterfalls, forests, hiking, nature, and scenic Black Hills photography.
