Piece description from the artist
Shot in St. Croix, USVI, while wandering a small beach on the South of the island, this old gnarled tree was clinging to the cliffside. The exposed roots like thousands of tiny fingers grasping the stone.
Marshall Stief is a New York City-based photographer and cinematographer. His passion for documentary photography has sent him all over the United States and around the globe.
While traveling, Marshall always sets aside time to photograph the world around him. His style ranges from shooting vistas and landscapes to more abstract imagery. His favorite subject, however, is his own back yard; New York City. New York is known as one of the most photographed places on Earth, but Marshall feels that it is still rich with unseen images. His unique perspective on the city always produces interesting and different views.
From Bangkok to Charleston, Harlem to New Zealand, these photographs capture the essence of the places they were taken.
