Room 1009

Room 1009

Piece description from the artist

I love the new series I'm creating, featuring sheet music, some handwritten school notebook pages from France (dating from the 1800s) as well as charcoal, gesso, pastel and ink. I'm creating a series of abstracts and nudes using the paper as my canvas. In this series, I don't have any pre-conceived notions. I let the ink be my guide and whatever happens, happens.

In this particular painting, I knew I would name it "Room 1009" almost immediately. This woman emerged and reminded me of the opening line from the Rolling Stones song "Shine A Light" where Mick Jagger sings, "I saw you stretched out in Room 1009…" If you know this song, I think you would agree that the title fits this painting perfectly.
