Piece description from the artist
I was drawn to this large hedge apple, or Osage orange, tree at Roaring River State Park in Cassville, Missouri, USA. Its thick branches stretch outward and upward in twisting, sculptural forms, making it both a striking natural feature and a fun place for kids to climb while families fish nearby.
Historically, the wood of this tree was highly valued by Native Americans for crafting durable bows. Behind it, the blue-green waters of the Roaring River flow steadily, fed by a powerful natural spring that produces around 20 million gallons of water each day. A few fishermen can be seen along the riverbank. As the 20th largest spring in Missouri, it supports a thriving trout population, making this peaceful setting a favorite for both anglers and visitors enjoying the beauty of the Ozarks.
