Piece description from the artist
A powerful waterfall cascades beside the remaining stone walls of Dilday Mill, also known as Finley Mill, in Greenfield, Missouri, United States. Located along Turnback Creek, this historic site blends the beauty of flowing water with the enduring remnants of one of southwest Missouri's early mills.
Built in 1867, Dilday Mill was a water-powered grist mill that stood two stories above ground level and extended three stories above the creek below. For generations, the mill played an important role in the surrounding community before the structure eventually collapsed in 1982. The site was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1977 and later removed in 1994 following the collapse.
Today, the surviving rock walls continue to stand against the passage of time. Their weathered brown stone contrasts beautifully with the lush green trees surrounding the waterfall, creating a scene that is both peaceful and powerful. The rushing water of Turnback Creek and the enduring ruins serve as reminders of Missouri's rich milling history and the resilience of the landscapes that preserve these stories.
