After driving the backroads for the day, I captured this photograph of a quiet, reflective moment on a rural Montana backroad after a storm. I noticed the horizon, defined by a dirt two-track road that leads the eye into the distance, flanked by lush green fields. A singular rainwater puddle in the foreground acts as a natural mirror, catching the warm, orange glow of the breaking clouds above. The sky is a dramatic mix of heavy, teal-toned storm clouds and a soft, sun-kissed opening, creating a powerful contrast between the cool earth and the vibrant light. It’s an evocative scene that speaks to the vastness of the plains and the peaceful stillness that follows a summer rain.
Annie was born and raised in Montana, growing up on her family's ranch in the beautiful Smith River Valley. Growing up in Montana's wild and beautiful Landscape led to her deep love of nature and all things rural. Annie attended the Art Institute of Colorado and lived in Denver Colorado until the completion of her Interior Design degree in 2002. After working in that field for several years, Annie moved back to Montana and began her own business, focusing on her ever-growing love of photography. She began traveling the backroads and wilderness of Montana and the Rocky Mountain region and selling her photos professionally in galleries, shops, and online. She primarily searches for rural Landscapes, old barns, abandoned farmhouses, and occasionally wildlife she encounters. Her work as been featured in HGTV, Better Homes and Gardens, and featured in three books on emerging artists of the United States. She currently lives in Billings, Montana, and takes several trips during the year to gather new images.
