Here's another view where I captured the Aurora Borealis over Fellows Lake in Springfield, Missouri on October 10, 2024, during the peak of an extraordinary geomagnetic storm. Soft yet vivid bands of pink, magenta, green, and violet stretch across the night sky, blending seamlessly as faint stars shine through the glow. The aurora forms gentle streaks and vertical washes of color that feel almost painted onto the sky.
Below, the still surface of Fellows Lake reflects the colors above, creating a calm, mirror-like foreground that contrasts beautifully with the energy of the sky. The dark tree line anchors the scene, reminding you just how rare and surreal it was to witness the northern lights this far south in Missouri. This moment felt quiet, powerful, and deeply humbling, one of those rare lifetime nights where the sky completely stole the show.
