Piece description from the artist
A selective color photograph I captured of the base of Spearfish Falls offers an up-close view of the powerful water cascading over a rocky cliff of Spearfish Canyon in the Black Hills of South Dakota. The falls is in black and white while the rainbow is in color. The rushing water fills the scene as it tumbles into the pool below, creating a peaceful combination of motion, mist, and rugged natural beauty. Thanks to the morning mist, I was able to get a faint rainbow.
The long exposure to gives the flowing water a silky, smooth appearance while preserving the details of the surrounding rocks. At about 50 feet tall, Spearfish Falls is one of the scenic highlights of the Black Hills and a beautiful destination for landscape photographers and nature lovers exploring South Dakota. Reached by a short hike near Lead and Savoy, this waterfall is well worth the journey to experience from the base.
