Prospect Park Boathouse Steps

Piece description from the artist

This stunning colored pencil drawing captures the intricate details and unique character of the Prospect Park Boathouse steps in Brooklyn, NY. The bright neon orange pencil used in this piece adds a bold and energetic touch to the image, while the use of yellow and green brings a sense of vibrancy and liveliness. The lines in this drawing are full of energy and movement, and the view looks down the steps with the lights along the side of them, creating a sense of depth and perspective. This piece was drawn from life, while the artist, Noel Hefele, sat with Nico in Prospect Park in the fall of 2019. These drawings were all completed in a single morning, fueled by a large bodega coffee. The attention to detail and careful shading bring the image to life, making it a true work of art. Whether viewed in person or online, this drawing is sure to impress and delight viewers of all ages.

About Noel Hefele

Bronx, NY

I paint New York City's wild edges – the parks, waterways, and forgotten green spaces where nature persists despite urban pressure.

Based in the Bronx, I'm currently exploring Van Cortlandt Park, one of NYC's largest and wildest parks. My work captures these landscapes in oil, focusing on the moments when light, water, and seasons transform familiar places into something unexpected.

I studied at Carnegie Mellon (BFA) and in England (MA in Arts and Ecology). My paintings are in private collections internationally.
