Piece description from the artist
This photograph captures a another scene of tall, slender pine trees at a rest stop in Michigan, focusing on the vertical lines and natural rhythm of the forest. Sunlight filters through the canopy casting soft highlights and shadows across the textured bark, which accentuates the trees’ height and rugged character.
Pines are coniferous evergreens belonging to the genus Pinus within the family Pinaceae, with Pinus recognized as the only genus in the subfamily Pinoideae. According to The Plant List, compiled by the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew and the Missouri Botanical Garden, 126 pine species are currently accepted, along with several unresolved species and many synonyms. The interplay of light and shadow across the tree trunks creates a calm, contemplative woodland scene that highlights the quiet beauty of Michigan’s forest landscapes.
