Pikes Peak Under The Storm

Storm clouds began gathering over Red Rock Canyon in Manitou Springs, Colorado, as I explored the trails and watched the weather quickly change. Just as the skies darkened, a break in the clouds allowed soft sunlight to gently illuminate Pikes Peak and the surrounding Rocky Mountains in the distance.

I captured this photograph while standing behind a green bush covered with tiny yellow buds, using the natural vegetation to add depth and a touch of color to the scene. The contrast between the approaching evening storm, the glowing mountain peaks, and the quiet foreground created a memorable Colorado landscape.

Located between Manitou Springs and Colorado Springs, Red Rock Canyon Open Space offers dramatic red rock formations and scenic mountain views similar to nearby Garden of the Gods, but with a unique history shaped by its past as an old rock quarry. This section of the park is also home to a popular off-leash dog area where visitors can enjoy the open landscape with their four-legged companions.

With Pikes Peak in the background as part of the Rocky Mountains, this peaceful moment captured the ever-changing beauty of Colorado's Front Range.
