Piece description from the artist
voyaging along the California coast is not for the faint of heart. But, the majesty of the the humpbacks breaching, the terror of the Santa Anas screaming down the the mountains for the sea, the dolphins speeding by after checking out your vessel and the confusion of seas from Japan merging with currents and shallow waves leave you breathless and yet entranced wondering what is next. Sharing this experience is so much more powerful than painting the cliffs. As always, layer after layer build up to created the artwork.
Jane is a Signature member of the American Society of Marine Artists and the National Association of Women Artists. Jane's practice unfolds as both a poetic meditation and an urgent environmental inquiry into humanity’s enduring—and increasingly fragile—relationship with water. Rooted in a lifetime of lived experience on and within the ocean, her work transcends representation, operating instead as a form of embodied memory and ecological consciousness.
