I'd been walking for a while, carefully lifting my heels so they wouldn't slip between the cobblestones, when I realized I was doing the same thing with my life — trying not to misstep. In that moment, it stopped being about where I was headed next and became about the simple rhythm of one step, then another, then another. It was easy to imagine living off a street like this, in a space that reminds you every day that progress doesn't have to be grand to be meaningful – it just has to keep moving forward, one step at a time.
