Ocean of the sky

Ocean of The Sky

Piece description from the artist

Ocean of The Sky was inspired by softly glowing waves of clouds. As they glided over the Rocky Mountains, they resembled an ethereal ocean. It was an unforgettable sight.

I started this painting by thinning down oil paint to the point where it almost blends like watercolors. I then used compressed air to guide the under painting.

Then I painted over that, making sure to let some of the under painting show through. The interplay of colors creates a sense of movement and immediacy that keeps the painting fresh.

The painting process I use lends itself to creating organic forms, which I then tighten up with structural lines. This free-form technique mirrors the larger theme of my work: the hard edges of our structured world contrasted against the organic forms of the natural world.

This original oil painting was created using only the highest quality professional grade oil paint and natural non-toxic solvent to produce an archival work of art. Original is on 1.5 inch gallery wrapped edges and painted so that no framing is needed. It is ready to hang.

About Cynthia Ligeros

Englewood, CO

The art of Cynthia Ligeros incorporates impressionist elements that reveal an inner landscape to the viewer, an image at once familiar and transcendent. She seeks to explore our place in a world that we have created, yet one which also creates us.

Her paintings often begin with a single driving emotion. From that, an image develops, inspired by the colors, cycles and feelings of the environment.

Sunsets, moonscapes, flowers, the changing seasons — all of these are sources of inspiration, adding richness and layers of complexity to her paintings.

Even industrial spaces and structures figure prominently in her work, contrasting the artifice of the cityscape against the limitless beauty of the sky.

As she paints, she redefines the spaces around us and how they connect to our lives.

Her artwork was recently acquired by Colorado Creative Industries for the newly remodeled Ketchum Arts and Sciences Building at CU Boulder.

Her art has appeared at the Denver Mayor’s Residence, Denver International Airport, the Madden Museum, Denver Botanic Gardens, Professional Artist Magazine, FOX News, and galleries from San Francisco to New York City.
