Piece description from the artist

When I started this, I had just moved back to the East Coast and was flooded with many memories of growing up there. In a dream, I was flooded with an array of memories from a place I used to go hiking with my father as a child. There are multiple scenes from the hiking trail that I compiled into this singular composition. After entering the trail, you cross a bridge that leads to an open straw field, filled with butterflies and bugs floating around. Past the sunlight field, the trail suddenly turns shady from the tall pines lining the river. You can hear your footsteps tamping on the roots and hollow ground and you climb towards the waterfall. There’s many layers to discover; wrapping paper, laser transfers, paint skins, denim, and many layers of acrylic and spray paint create lots of depth. Every time you look, you’ll find a new detail.

About Sarah Finucane

Ridgefield, CT

Sarah Finucane is a contemporary abstract artist whose work blends structured design with raw, intuitive expression. Based in Connecticut after nearly two decades in LA, she brings a creative director’s clarity to a deeply personal practice. Her background in advertising and tech—leading campaigns for Fortune 50 brands—trained her to communicate through composition, balance, and tone. Those instincts now run through her artwork, where a visual language takes the place of literal messaging. Her art has been featured in Vogue and selected by Anthropologie’s curators. Collected internationally, her pieces often sell before they’re finished, and her commissions book out months in advance.
