Piece description from the artist
Night in Prospect Park, Brooklyn. I had the painting at MOMA titled "Street Light" by futurist painter Giacomo Balla in mind when completing this painting. I also wanted to capture the disappearing sodium lamps with that delicate orange glow. They remind me of night as a kid.
As the LED light revolution takes hold, it is changing our experience of night. The mysterious glow and low color registry is being replaced by crisp, high color, LED light. This is not the first time night has changed in NYC, I imagine the disappearance of gas lamps led to similar feelings of loss or nostalgia for those living through it.
Making this painting, I realized light itself can be an ideology.
I paint New York City's wild edges – the parks, waterways, and forgotten green spaces where nature persists despite urban pressure.
Based in the Bronx, I'm currently exploring Van Cortlandt Park, one of NYC's largest and wildest parks. My work captures these landscapes in oil, focusing on the moments when light, water, and seasons transform familiar places into something unexpected.
I studied at Carnegie Mellon (BFA) and in England (MA in Arts and Ecology). My paintings are in private collections internationally.
