Newsprint 20

Piece description from the artist

After visiting the Charles Schulz Museum in California, Lauren Karp captured an abstract image of flowers in Golden Gate Park. Inspired by the comics she saw earlier in the day, Lauren transformed the photo into a black-and-white flowing checkerboard, creating a pattern that pays homage to the nostalgic feel of newsprint and the classic aesthetics of comic strips.

About Lauren Harris Karp

Nashville, TN

Lauren Karp is a Nashville-based photographer and visual artist. Her Imaginature™ images are abstract works exploring nature, transformation and time. She brings these still images to life by setting them to movement and music in her Imaginature In Motion™ digital works. Several of Karp’s installations are permanently displayed at Vanderbilt University Medical Center where they greet millions of patients, staff and visitors annually. Lauren began losing her hearing over 25 years ago. Without her hearing aids, she lives in a world with little sound. Lauren finds that her visual perception is heightened, which influences her work by enabling her to capture the beauty she sees, and express it through her artwork. Karp hopes her work will delight viewers and allow them to see nature’s beauty in new and exciting ways.
