Piece description from the artist
A soft veil of golden haze settles over the La Sal Mountains as the first light of sunrise filters through a layer of clouds, creating a peaceful and almost dreamlike atmosphere. I captured this tranquil moment from Shafer Trail Viewpoint in Canyonlands National Park in Moab, Utah, where the warm morning light gently softened the rugged landscape instead of revealing it all at once.
The towering canyon cliffs in the foreground emerge through the mist with subtle layers of light and shadow, giving the scene a quiet sense of depth and mystery. I love how the hazy conditions muted the distant details while allowing the golden glow to become the focal point, transforming the desert into a landscape that felt calm, timeless, and almost ethereal.
Moments like this are what make sunrise photography so rewarding. The ever-changing light, drifting clouds, and delicate haze combined to create an atmosphere that lasted only a few minutes before the sun climbed higher and the landscape revealed itself in full.
