Piece description from the artist
This piece is part of a series of paintings the I call "Over The Counter Culture." In this series, I am combining the pop culture I grew up with and still enjoy today with the rising pill popping epidemic that is haunting America today. It is something that affects all of us directly or indirectly.
Cameron Mikovich is a leading painter among a new generation of artist creating the "Neo-pop":http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neo-pop movement.
Like "Roy Litchenstien":http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roy_Lichtenstein and "Andy Warhol":http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andy_Warhol during the 1960's, Mikovich works with images and techniques culled from popular culture and the commercial arts. His work, however, expresses the unique sensibilities of our own times.
Mikovich's hand-painted images portray some of the gods and demons that populate our world of mass culture, and a new aesthetic that combines formalism and realism in the forging of a "Neo-pop":http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neo-pop style.
