Mount Rushmore Tree Framed Vertical Selective Color

Piece description from the artist

This vertical selective color photograph features the iconic faces of Mount Rushmore National Memorial in black and white above the evergreen forests of the Black Hills in South Dakota with the American Flag in color replacing the sky. The portrait orientation emphasizes the towering scale of the monument, drawing the eye upward from the pine-covered slopes to the massive granite carvings that have become one of America's most recognizable landmarks.

Featured on the mountainside are four influential United States presidents, George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt, and Abraham Lincoln. Together, they were chosen to symbolize the birth, growth, development, and preservation of the nation. Framed by the surrounding trees, the monument stands as a powerful tribute to American history and leadership.

I captured both of these images. Mount Rushmore was captured in 2026, the year commemorating the 250th anniversary of American independence. Arriving before the crowds allowed for a quieter experience and an unobstructed view of the memorial. The soft morning light gently illuminated the granite faces, highlighting the remarkable craftsmanship while enhancing the natural beauty of the Black Hills landscape.

Located near Keystone, South Dakota, Mount Rushmore remains one of the most visited attractions in the United States. Its combination of historical significance, patriotic symbolism, and stunning mountain scenery continues to inspire visitors from around the world who come to experience this remarkable national memorial.
