A view of Mount Rushmore National Memorial looking through some stone columns. Seeing this site in person will give you chills as you look through the Avenue Of Flags walkway which features flags from all 50 states with the carved mountain in the background. This is located near Keystone, South Dakota, in the heart of the Black Hills.
The carved faces of George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt, and Abraham Lincoln are so detailed when you consider they are caved from granite. These four presidents were selected to represent the nation's birth, growth, development, and preservation, making it a remarkable artistic achievement and a lasting tribute to American history. Seeing the monument emerge beyond the entrance is an unforgettable moment that fills visitors with awe and appreciation for the craftsmanship and significance of this national memorial. We went in the morning to beat the crowds in May 2026, the same year as the 250th anniversary.
