Piece description from the artist
'My dream is to move to Bainbridge Island outside of Seattle. My husbands dream is to not have this as his commute. I think it's a gorgeous commute. I could paint all day from our new home on the island and "ship" him off to work!
Morning Commute' captures the Bainbridge ferry heading from Seattle to Bainbridge Island. In July 2005, CNN/Money and Money magazine named Bainbridge Island the second-best place to live in the United States.
With a B.F.A. from Virginia Commonwealth University and a M.F.A. from Cornell University, Tamara mainly produces Color Field and Abstract Expressionist works. But when Tamara's son left for college and the house became quiet, she began experimenting with watercolors. She was surprised to find that she absolutely loved it. Watercolors are a huge change for Tamara, as she had never painted anything close to realism before, but she is enjoying this new dimension.
Tamara and her family live in Massachusetts, a short drive away from Lake Winnipesaukee, the White Mountains, the cape, and Maine. However, her standalone favorite place to paint is the American west. She loves to paint from photos she's taken at the National Parks she's visited. Her favorite part about painting realist works is seeing people's face light up when they recognize the locations in her paintings.
The next new adventure for Tamara will be returning to abstract work, but this time around experimenting with small scale and encaustic works.
