A black and white photograph as the morning sunlight illuminates the cascading waters of Spearfish Falls in the Black Hills of South Dakota. The 50 foot waterfall is especially beautiful where several streams of water come together, creating one impressive cascade surrounded by the rugged scenery of Spearfish Canyon.
I captured this scene with a long exposure, giving the rushing water a silky, dreamlike appearance while preserving the details of the surrounding landscape. Located near Lead and Savoy, the falls are reached by a short hike of about three-quarters of a mile round trip, making this beautiful spot well worth the visit.
