Mom And Baby Bighorn Sheep Stroll

A precious wildlife moment at Badlands National Park in South Dakota shows a mother bighorn sheep and her young lamb walking side by side along the edge of the rugged cliffs. I captured this ewe and her lamb as they carefully made their way across the steep rock formations at Pinnacles Overlook during blue hour. Seeing them confidently navigate the rocky terrain together was incredible.

The soft light after sunset casts cool blue tones across the sharply eroded landscape, while faint touches of pink linger in the clouds overhead. Layers of colorful mudstone, sandstone, claystone, and other rock formations create the dramatic scenery surrounding these wild animals.

The loose rocks felt almost as slippery as ice beneath my own feet, yet the bighorn sheep moved with remarkable confidence and agility. Watching this mother and lamb travel together across the cliffs was a memorable reminder of how perfectly adapted these animals are to the rugged terrain of Badlands National Park. I was grateful to witness this special encounter and capture them together in the beautiful evening light.
