Midwestern Sky Lights

Piece description from the artist

A rare and mesmerizing night as the Aurora Borealis lit up the sky over Fellows Lake in Springfield, Missouri. Vivid streaks of pink, red, green, and purple stretched across the heavens, moving like painted brushstrokes as the lights danced and shifted overhead. Those same streaks mirrored beautifully across the calm lake below, creating a layered reflection that made the entire scene feel otherworldly.

Captured on October 10, 2024, during an intense geomagnetic storm, the aurora reached far south into the Midwest, an unforgettable and emotional surprise for Missouri skies. Seeing the distinct streaks with the naked eye, pulsing and flowing across the horizon, was a humbling reminder of nature’s quiet power. In that still moment by the water, time seemed to pause as the sky put on a rare lifetime performance.
