Piece description from the artist
My work is a visual exploration of the mental, physical and physiological mutations we experience through aging, moving to new places, traveling, changing acquaintances, and learning new things. It follows the deeply individual steps along a universal path, how we amend different influences into a structure of who we are.
The use of line and pattern represent our own personal dogma as it finds itself influenced by changing environments/experiences, and either adjusts accordingly, becomes subsumed, or retains it’s integrity. The painting becomes both a creation of and a reaction to the specific environment, moment, and space of itself. A dialogue between accident and structure, whim and deliberation act out the larger narrative of maintaining a definition of oneself whilst changing and developing according to new wisdom or experience.
