Piece description from the artist

Machine Learning
This is a series of images I shot using a 0.014 megapixel Gameboy Camera from 1999. It shoots in a four tone gray-scale which I then colorize. Other than the color adjustment these images are unedited.

I'm interested in how our technology sees us, from the dozens of security cameras we are recorded by each day, to how Google and Amazon track our searches to develop an idea of who we are and what we like. I wanted to work with some of the earliest available digital image capture that was available to the public so I landed on Nintendo’s Gameboy Camera from the 90s. The rudimentary images of us that this early digital technology captures stands as a contrast to the hyper-nuanced, facial-recognition aided portrait that our current tech captures everyday. It’s kind of the digital equivalent of a cave painting. Very simple, just enough information to describe a form, and hint at a story.

About Patrick Heagney

Atlanta, GA

Patrick Heagney is a photographic artist based in Atlanta, Georgia where he lives with his wife, son, and entirely too many cats. He graduated from Savannah College of Art and Design with a BFA in photography. A magazine and advertising photographer by trade he has pursued a parallel fine arts career as a means to scratch the creative itch that commercial work doesn't always allow him to.
He is interested in unconventional methods and processes that stretch the idea of what fine art photography can be. He hates black and white pictures of trees or landmarks with a certain passion and would almost rather hang a "Live, Laugh, Love" sign in his home than a generic black and white photo. Almost.
