About Pamela Viola

Alexandria, VA

Pamela Viola was born and raised in New York and New Hampshire, and currently lives in Old Town Alexandria, Virginia, across the river from Washington DC.

Known as a photographer and mixed media artist, her current work focuses on eco-friendly and sustainable practices of repairing, reusing and repurposeing. Her aesthetic is wabi-sabi, which is sometimes described as the beauty found in the imperfect, impermanent, and incomplete.

Her art for interiors and products promote the integration of mindful use of cast-off materials. Pamela makes wall art and cards from reclaimed natural fibers via hand dyeing and stitching. Silk scarves and prints are made using non-toxic cyanotype chemicals and materials from nature.

Training in several mediums, Pamela has studied with a variety of teachers including Jay Maisel (color photography), Henry Horenstein (black and white photography), and Pat Adams (painting, printmaking). Additionally, she had a fifteen-year career in the film industry working alongside directors Ridley Scott, Oliver Stone and Barry Sonnenfeld.

Pamela works with art consultants and interior designers on projects that range from intimate residential spaces to large-scale corporate and healthcare environments and hospitality settings. Her work has been exhibited throughout the United States, Paris, France and Oporto, Portugal. Her work regularly appears in television shows such as “Scandal” and “Revenge,” in publications including Art Business News, Elan Magazine, and Northern Virginia Magazine, and is held in public, private, and corporate collections worldwide.
