Lost 001

Piece description from the artist

By the time Lucy realized she was lost, the light was already dying. She had followed the old logging road farther than she meant to, just a short hike, she’d told herself. A chance to clear her head after the fight with her sister. The path had looked so easy, so civilized, with the tire ruts still visible in the damp earth. But now, as twilight crept between the trees, the road had dissolved into nothing but shadows and tangled roots. Her phone was dead. Of course it was. It always was when she needed it most. The woods around her were silent except for the low sigh of wind through the branches. Even the birds had gone quiet. Lucy called out once, “Hello?”, but her voice came back to her strange and warped, as though the forest itself was mocking her. She told herself not to panic. That was the trick of it. People who panicked made mistakes. She’d just follow the slope downhill until she hit water, rivers led to roads, didn’t they? Her father had told her that once, back when he used to take her camping. But as she walked, the forest changed. The trees grew thicker, the air heavier. She began to notice carvings on the trunks, strange marks, like spirals or eyes, cut deep into the bark. Some of them looked fresh, the sap still weeping from the wounds. A smell hit her then, rotting meat and wet earth. It came in a wave, thick and sweet, clinging to the back of her throat. She gagged and turned, shining her weak flashlight around. That’s when she saw it. Something hung from one of the trees ahead, a shape wrapped in burlap and tied with coarse rope. For a moment she thought it was a deer. Then she saw the hand. The flashlight flickered, and in that brief pulse of darkness, she thought she heard something move behind her, a dragging sound, slow and deliberate. When the beam steadied again, the forest looked the same, but the air felt wrong, watching. She started running. Branches tore at her arms, her lungs burned, but she couldn’t stop. The smell followed her, stronger now, like it was crawling into her skin. She tripped, hit the ground hard, and when she looked up, there was a figure standing just beyond the trees. Tall. Thin. Wearing what might’ve once been a hunter’s jacket, though the fabric looked soaked through, dark with something that wasn’t rain. Lucy tried to speak, but no sound came. The figure tilted its head, slow and curious, like an animal testing a new sound. Then it began to move toward her, one dragging step at a time, boots scraping the dirt. Her flashlight died completely. The last thing she heard before the darkness swallowed her was that same dragging sound, closer now, and a low voice whispering from the trees, soft as breath: “Keep going downhill.”

About Alicia Lopez

About Alicia Lopez:

"Art is more than a mere snapshot of time; it's a window into the fleeting beauty of a specific moment, a chance to capture the perfect harmony that exists within it."

Alicia Lopez, an American painter, has brought this philosophy to life through her bold and evocative works. Having exhibited widely in both solo and group shows across the United States and Mexico, her artistic journey began in childhood. As a young girl, she would set up imaginary exhibitions for her mother, her first and most steadfast supporter.

"Without the beautiful angel God assigned me as a mom, I wouldn’t be who I am. All I am and will ever be is thanks to her. She is the strongest, kindest, and most lovable human being you will ever meet!" Alicia says, her voice brimming with love.

Her mother’s encouragement laid the foundation for Alicia's passionate pursuit of art, and this deep-rooted sense of gratitude continues to fuel her work. Each of Alicia’s paintings is more than just a visual experience it’s a story. A narrative born from her desire to transform the world into a beautiful, peaceful dream. Her art seamlessly blends the realms of imagination and nature, inviting viewers to embrace the boundless beauty of the world around them.

"Without imagination, I wouldn't have created 80% of my artworks."

A true free spirit, Alicia refuses to be confined by any particular style. She considers herself an artist with no boundaries, a creator who works without limitations or rules. Her paintings often evoke the silent yet powerful forces of nature, each brushstroke a testament to her unrestricted creative process. While she works in both oils and acrylics, Alicia particularly favors acrylics for their versatility and fast-drying properties, which allow her to experiment and evolve without delay.

"I love to create freely without limitations or impossibilities. The best thing about art is there's no limitations."

Over the years, Alicia has built a devoted following and earned widespread recognition in the art world, expanding her reach to international audiences. Her solo exhibitions and collaborations have garnered critical acclaim, further solidifying her place in the global art scene.

"Success to me is the ability to create and love what you do. What seals it all together is having others love what you made with so much passion."

Alicia Lopez’s art is a reflection of her unyielding spirit—an invitation to experience the world through the eyes of someone who believes that imagination and nature hold the key to a life of limitless possibilities. For Alicia, every canvas tells a story, a story driven by an insatiable desire to make the world a more beautiful, peaceful place. Her paintings are more than works of art; they are an embrace of nature’s most stunning contradictions: the gentle and the fierce, the quiet and the loud, the seen and the unseen. Through her eyes, the world unfolds as a living, breathing dream, and she shares that dream with anyone willing to listen.
