Looking Down On Glen Canyon Dam

Piece description from the artist

Standing on a rocky outcrop above Glen Canyon Dam near Page, Arizona, I captured this unique view looking down toward one of the dam's popular overlooks and the Colorado River far below. From this elevated vantage point, the immense scale of both the canyon and the engineering marvel becomes easier to appreciate. Warm evening sunlight illuminates one side of the vibrant orange sandstone walls while deep shadows fill the opposite side of the canyon, creating dramatic contrast across the landscape.

Rising approximately 710 feet above the Colorado River, Glen Canyon Dam is one of the most recognizable landmarks in the American Southwest. The massive concrete arch-gravity dam was completed in 1966 and created Lake Powell, one of the largest reservoirs in the United States and a centerpiece of recreation in northern Arizona.

Located within Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, this scene highlights the remarkable blend of natural beauty and human engineering. Towering canyon walls, colorful desert rock formations, and the winding Colorado River combine to create a breathtaking landscape that attracts photographers, sightseers, and outdoor enthusiasts from around the world. Looking down from above, the overlook, dam, and canyon provide a fascinating perspective on one of Arizona's most iconic destinations.
