Piece description from the artist
This piece was painted Alla Prima in a workshop that focused on light. Light sources are not always evident in abstract work, however they remain conceptually important. My hope with this painting is that the light source is luminous and beckoning.
Although I was always a creative, it wasn’t until I studied oil painting with the late Italian Oil Painter Enrico Donati that I understood that art was one of my intended paths. My work with Donati laid a formal classical foundation that served me well through my evolution from a traditional painter to my current abstract style.
Today my paintings are process driven and develop organically in-studio. They celebrate color, form, line and shape, and they share dynamic, surreal, lyrical qualities that are clearly grounded in my early work and study. My goal is to step away from intention and create intuitive, reflective yet dynamic work. I continue to honor the miles of traditional landscapes and seascapes that got me here, and I often wonder what Enrico would think of my work today.
As an inducted juried member and Board member of the National Association of Women Artists, I currently exhibit extensively in solo, juried, and group shows throughout New England. I am also a wearable art designer and I have recently launched a line of textile designs using my original paintings as my design inspirations.
‘I believe that my work is a reflection of my personal truths,
even though I may fail to see or understand it myself.
My pieces say different things to different viewers,
which is really the fun of it. ‘
