Piece description from the artist
I had a vision in my meditation of a white lion. As it was Leo season and I have many Leo's as friends and family including myself as a Leo moon it had to be painted. I was also to do a live painting at a Leo party with Fire Dancing. So I first made a background with fluid acrylics. Then the idea of the Lion floating in a safe blue bubble came to me, so I created the semi-transparent blue orb. I found a reference photo of a white lion I liked and based it on a few different photos. The eyes were from a different photo that had more detail than my main one. So then I had the hot fire colors and cooling blue air element. I was pleased to learn the fluid paints glowed in the dark at the event and that was perfect for the fire. The video is great of this effect with color changing lights. I have it on my Instagram. CrystalMatrixArt. While I was painting it in front of people at this wild party in Puna, Hawaii where I live, I met a Doctor who purchased it. I had to think about it for a while since it was not finished, but after I completed it late in my studio, I agreed to sell it. I plan to make some prints since I will miss it dearly!
Laura McClanahan's artwork is an exploration of natural patterns. Her main thesis is a study of water forms as a metaphor for thought patterns. Through photography and painting, Laura experiments with abstract imagery inspired by nature and her inner understanding of micro and macro patterns. Her images could be celestial or microscopic, this is her understanding of "as above, so below".
Laura is a graduate of Maryland Institute College of Art with an MFA degree in Studio Art. She uses experimental techniques with color darkroom photograms, video and large format printing. Laura continues to expand her explorations via paintings with resin and gemstones sold at Gemstone Gallery in Frenchtown, NJ. Having moved to the Big Island of Hawaii. She teaches painting classes and performs live painting at festivals and events. Her art installations can be found in local stores, Airbnb's and temple spaces island wide. Her paintings have been exhibited in art fairs in Geoje, South Korea and other international art fairs through her gallery representatives in New York City, USA.
