Piece description from the artist

An original painting from my recent series, “flower photos from my phone”, in which abstract gouache illustration is paired with digital printmaking. The photos were taken over the last five year spanning my stints in California, Southwestern Virginia, and Massachusetts. I started making silkscreen prints with old photos from my iPhone in 2017, but when I no longer had access to screen printing facilities I had to improvise. I couldn’t print the colors I wanted with a standard printer, so I bought gouache and started running minimal abstract paintings through the xerox machine to alter the photographic prints then painting on top of those layered images. The work explores themes of altered memory and nostalgia. This particular piece was made for a local print project, but the original is still available.
