Piece description from the artist
For this piece I drew from a collage and painted with watercolor. I like to play with perspective with the arrangement of things; I also fell in love with Naples Yellow.
Andrea Newland was born and raised in Monson, MA. Andrea attended the Massachusetts College of Art and Design in Boston, MA, earning a degree in art education and painting. While attending Mass Art, she studied abroad at Studio Art Centers International (SACI) in Florence, Italy. She currently lives in Monson, revisiting her roots, with a barn for a studio and her imagination.
Her paintings range in medium and style. She likes to use oils, acrylics, watercolor and mixed media on canvas, board and paper. Sometimes abstract and sometimes illustrative, her paintings are unique interpretations of her world observed and filtered through brightly colored expressive brushstrokes. The Lady Legs series has been progressing for the last few years. It is as if a camera fell to the ground still clicking, creating portraits of often forgotten legs of beautiful, strong women.
