Key to success

Key To Success

Piece description from the artist

This painting is almost identical to another image I recently saw – only the image I initially viewed was a black and white image and it had a lady, wistfully looking out into the sky. I had been searching for images of keyholes and when I came upon this image, I had to it – but give it my own twist. I loved the overall day/night imagery and the giant keyhole image. Initially, I was going to use my man, standing on the edge but instead, decided upon a small boy pulling a red wagon – so of course, I had to add the teddy bear as the boy's passenger on this adventure. The title of the painting didn't come to me until I had actually put my signature on the painting. I stood back, looked at this startling image (it is not a small painting!) and it immediately came to me. The boy is embarking on an adventure, going from one reality into another. He's walking confidently ahead, ready to cross the threshold. His teddy bear in the wagon gives him that added boost of confidence to go forward into whatever awaits. That's what we all must do in order to succeed. We have to go forward. We have to have confidence. We don't know what awaits – in life, or beyond. But being willing to take that flying leap of faith ultimately is, "The Key To Success".

About Tom Blood

St. Louis, MO

Tom Blood is a self-taught, modern-day surrealist, heavily influenced by his all-time favourite artist, Rene Magritte. Some of his early works include two crowd favorites – "Bobby Hull" which was created using a palette knife and "The Three Stooges" which was created using three primary colors. Since that time, Tom has pursued a more surrealistic path. He paints ideas. His goal is to paint the impossible, or at least, the highly improbable. With his paintings, viewers can always tell what's going on, not necessarily knowing why. He wants his paintings to tell stories that make people think, or bring a smile. His work has won numerous awards locally and he has had a number of solo shows in the St. Louis, Missouri area where he was born and raised.
