In the presence of water

In the Presence of Water

Piece description from the artist

This is a painting based on seeing a young girl and her mother swimming in the Verde River outside of Cottonwood, Arizona. Rather than use the people as the subjects of the painting, I preferred to use the sandals to indicate the presence of people in the water. The stillness of the upper third of the painting is in direct contrast to the movement and color in the water.
