Piece description from the artist
One in a series of collages created from various cultural debris.
Layla Kenney is an artist and designer raised in Boston and currently living in Brooklyn. While she works in a wide range of mediums, her most recent work has featured acrylics, watercolors, printmaking and collage.
The contrast between analogue and digital media has always been of particular interest to Layla. After taking a course on copyright and intellectual property rights, she began to revisit the collaging of appropriated images. Layla's collage process involves manually cutting and pasting images together on paper and then scanning them into the computer for digital alteration. Layla is inspired by surrealism in all forms, including the novels of Haruki Murakami, the photography of Tim Walker, the installations of Rune Guneriussen, the sculptures of Robert Gober and of course, the works of Dali, Breton and Magritte. When she’s not making art, Layla can be found holding small, furry animals, watching Game of Thrones, or playing billiards very poorly.
