I'll Take Manhattan

Piece description from the artist

This painting is based off of a photograph that my daughter took of my oldest son while we were visiting New York over Thanksgiving to spend with my middle son and his girlfriend. (In a way, all three kids contributed to this painting!) We were walking across the Brooklyn Bridge when my daughter took the photo. When we showed it to me, I immediately knew I had to turn it into a painting, replacing my son with the man in the bowler hat. Though creating this painting was quite tedious, requiring a lot of detail work, it was fun to see it come together. Any older adult might recognize the title of the painting. Somehow, it seemed quite appropriate and anyone who has ever crossed the Brooklyn Bridge into Manhattan should identify with this painting!

About Tom Blood

St. Louis, MO

Tom Blood is a self-taught, modern-day surrealist, heavily influenced by his all-time favourite artist, Rene Magritte. Some of his early works include two crowd favorites – "Bobby Hull" which was created using a palette knife and "The Three Stooges" which was created using three primary colors. Since that time, Tom has pursued a more surrealistic path. He paints ideas. His goal is to paint the impossible, or at least, the highly improbable. With his paintings, viewers can always tell what's going on, not necessarily knowing why. He wants his paintings to tell stories that make people think, or bring a smile. His work has won numerous awards locally and he has had a number of solo shows in the St. Louis, Missouri area where he was born and raised.
