Piece description from the artist
Painting of one of the homes in Charleston, South Carolina.
Alexander Fedirko grew up in the Detroit area and earned his degree in architecture, drawing and painting at the University of Michigan in 2003. In 2006, he moved to Chicago for a design job and took residence in a studio loft. For the next five years, he created paintings that reflected his interest in architecture, urban planning, design, travel, and his own painting process.
Fedirko often uses photography as a way to develop blueprints for his paintings. These photographs act as mnemonic devices that allow him to reenter the space of interest, without having to set up easels in particularly difficult areas. His time-lapse video, “613 days of painting”:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FRNJa0Phlys&feature=youtu.be offers a look at this studio practice from 2008-2009.
Alexander's work has been featured in numerous publications, including "New American Paintings":http://www.newamericanpaintings.com and the 2012 spring edition of "Studio Visit Magazine":http://studiovisitmagazine.com/. He is currently located in Detroit, Michigan.
