Piece description from the artist
Watercolors, inks and tissue paper in an exuberant composition.
Nina Evans is passionate for gardening: the colors, patterns, messing in dirt, happy accidents when seeds jump somewhere new as the garden participated in its own creation. Watercolor painting is full of color, pattern and messing about, a joyful intersection of intention and accident. Just as her gardens suggest but do not copy the wild, her works evoke but do not imitate the natural world. As seeds move away from their source, her watercolors have also evolved. Nina paints on glass with specially formulated weatherproof water-based pigments and creates multiple transparent panels. These are stacked or collaged, resulting in a sense of depth that combines the luminous colors of stained glass with the liquid looseness of watercolor.
Nina became a physician back when only six women, including herself, were in a medical school class of 120. Thereafter she trained in psychiatry specializing in family therapy, hypnotherapy and the treatment of children with an emphasis on finding the resources and strength in people and families. While scaling back from her medical career and into retirement, Nina is more deeply involved in art making.
