Hanging high high rock

Hanging High, High rock

Piece description from the artist

A girlfriend from college showed me this place. It's called High Rock, and some yers back, there was aa small restaurant there. It burned down in the '30s, and the fock was capped. Now it is a place where folks take off in hag gliders, albeit possibly illegal. I rolled up one day and watched a guy assemble his glider, take short run off a sheer drop and sail up on a slight breeze to be 1500 feet overhead. The other onlookers were visibly impressed. The view from High Rock is 23 miles out into MD & VA. Below the rock is the path CS General RE Lee and thousands of his troops took after losing a major battle at Gettysburg in 1863.

Artist’s Statement:
We begin looking at the world at an early age, as childhood is where the curiosity begins. Getting a camera when we are young allows us to practice with the constraints of making a photograph. Nobody wakes up knowing that in their waking hours they will make one of the most meaningful images a human has ever seen
To become a great photographer is an unbelievably difficult journey. Many try but startlingly few reach their goals. It has been said that photographers see everything, but becoming an all-seeing photographer is the result of years of practice. My work allows me to shoot film for my images, as it is my most familiar tool and every image I make is an attempt at creating perfect beauty.
