Green Challenge

Piece description from the artist

Following up landscape series, this painting looks really like classical impressionist painting that I feel very content with the outcome. I am trying to catch up the technique I used in this painting for further studies. So, new paintings will follow of similar kind and color scheme, probably at bigger size. The most difficult part is the foreground grass that really have to look like grass. I achieved the desired effect by applying multiple washes on semi wet lighter layer, where timing was crucial. The cerulean blue as getting to the distant trees also helped to create depth.

About Cihan Polat

Istanbul, Turkey

My artistic practice is continuously developing a vision to interpret ordinary subjects into an authentic piece of art. My inspiration is urban life, city architecture, and the nature. I experiment with harmonic juxtaposition of values, colors and reference subjects. Even though I pay attention to technical planning, I believe that the uniqueness of a painting comes from the calligraphic marks and brushstrokes. I consider myself still in an evolving phase that I would acquire a unique style and character based on my calligraphic prints.

I stay mostly on the realistic side, where I lean to abstraction from time to time for giving realistic impressions.
