Golden Light In Spring Creek Canyon

Piece description from the artist

Warm afternoon sunlight pours into Spring Creek Canyon in southern Utah, transforming the narrow slot canyon walls into glowing shades of golden orange. Clear, cold spring water of Kanarra Creek flows along the Kanarra Falls hiking trail near Kanarraville, creating a beautiful contrast between the warm sandstone and the icy creek below.

I captured this vertical photograph while hiking through water that was only 36 degrees Fahrenheit. Even though we were there during the spring season, the frigid water made the trek an adventure in itself. Just a short distance farther into the canyon, hikers reach the beautiful main waterfall, one of the highlights of this unforgettable trail.

It is an approximately 4 mile roundtrip hike, with much of the route following the spring-fed creek. Even during the summer, the water remains cold. The trail can also become more challenging in places, with large boulders requiring some climbing and scrambling, particularly beyond the main waterfall.

This scene captures one of the quieter moments along the trail, when sunlight reaches deep into the canyon and illuminates the rugged sandstone walls. The combination of glowing rock, crystal-clear water, and the adventure of hiking through the canyon makes Spring Creek Canyon a truly memorable part of southern Utah.
