Piece description from the artist
This photograph features a perspective of Glen Canyon Dam from the Lake Powell side in Page, Arizona, as viewed from the water itself. Towering above the calm blue waters, the massive concrete arch-gravity dam rises between the towering sandstone cliffs of Glen Canyon, showcasing one of the most impressive engineering achievements in the American Southwest.
Standing approximately 710 feet tall, Glen Canyon Dam was completed in 1966 and created Lake Powell, one of the largest reservoirs in the United States. From this vantage point on the water, the immense scale of the structure becomes especially apparent as it stretches across the narrow canyon, framed by the colorful red and orange rock formations that define the landscape of northern Arizona.
Located within Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, this scene highlights the remarkable contrast between the rugged natural beauty of the canyon and the monumental dam that transformed the region. The clear waters of Lake Powell, dramatic desert cliffs, and iconic structure combine to create a classic Southwest landscape that attracts boaters, photographers, and outdoor enthusiasts from around the world.
Viewed from the heart of Lake Powell, this photograph offers a memorable look at one of Arizona's most famous landmarks, where stunning canyon scenery and modern engineering come together in an unforgettable setting.
