George Washington Above Granite And Pines

In this photograph, I captured a unique low-angle view of George Washington at Mount Rushmore National Memorial, high above the rugged granite landscape of the Black Hills in Keystone, South Dakota. Framed by weathered pine branches and evergreen trees, the nation's first president appears from the mountainside, emphasizing the scale of the monument and the beauty of its natural surroundings.

This is oe of the many diffferent views we saw while hiking the Presidential Trail, where several overlooks offer perspectives that many visitors never experience from the main viewing plaza. Looking up from below gives you a greater appreciation for the incredible craftsmanship that transformed this massive granite mountain into one of America's most cherished landmarks. The cliffs, rugged rock formations, and surrounding Black Hills forest create a dramatic setting that highlights the monument's grandeur.

George Washington was chosen to represent the birth of the United States, joining Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt, and Abraham Lincoln in commemorating the nation's founding, growth, development, and preservation.
