This pastel painting depicts a tranquil still life, placed on a sideboard against a deep black background. A branch with vivid red berries lies in the foreground of the picture. The berries add a touch of vibrant color to the painting. On the right side of the sideboard are two oranges and a halved one showing its juicy segments. The oranges bring a warm and contrasting color palette to the image. Behind the fruit there is a glass jug filled with shimmering blue water. The play of light in the water gives the still life a subtle elegance. The overall calm atmosphere of the painting is underlined by the clear arrangement of the elements and the harmonious color scheme.

Dietrich Moravec has been a selftaught artist for more than 4 decades. In the 1970s he began studying the techniques of the old masters. He experimented with egg tempera and oil painting, later on with acrylics in combination with oils or just acrylics. He dedicated himself to realism and photorealism. Other atistic techniques he used to work with are etching, drawings with graphite and charcoal, and scratchboard. His main subjects are still lifes with fruits or flowers, landscapes and sometimes animals. He made his living as an architectural draftsman and a teacher for arts and IT. Now he is retired and lives in a small town in Bavaria, Germany.
