Side View of US Highway 163 and Monument Valley from Forrest Gump Point
This photograph offers a unique perspective of the iconic US Highway 163 scene, looking toward hazy mesas and buttes along the Utah–Arizona border from the famous tourist stop known as Forrest Gump Point. Rather than standing in the middle of the road, this image was captured from the roadside near mile marker 13 in Mexican Hat, Utah. The location gained worldwide recognition from the movie Forrest Gump, where the title character ended his cross-country run, telling his followers, “I’m pretty tired. I think I’ll go home now.” In the distance, the Mittens buttes and parts of Monument Valley in Arizona rise above the desert floor, while a few cars make their way along the open highway. This scenic overlook remains one of the most photographed views in the American Southwest. Additional photographs from the center of the road are also available.
