Piece description from the artist
This piece was inspired by and sketched from a vintage photograph from my own personal collection. My palettes are inspired by starting with a found, vintage paper color and building out from there with other found papers and painted papers that are then cut in a quilt-like method and pieced together on a spruce panel. My love for combining vintage ephemera and modern, bold colors came from my start in graphic design and a love for the juxtaposition that seems to work so well in paper arts.
Hollie Chastain is a paperphile artist and illustrator working in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Coming from both a graphic design and studio art background, her work has a story-telling quality, mixing found material, strong graphic elements, and modern palettes. She is inspired by folklore, music, and the unknown and has a passion for folk art and self-taught artists.
