Piece description from the artist
Located in northwest Montana, Flathead Lake is the largest natural freshwater lake in the western United States, encompassing nearly 200 square miles of crystal-clear water. Carved by ancient glaciers, the lake sits in a structural depression known as the Rocky Mountain Trench and is bordered by the dramatic Mission Range to the east and the forested foothills of the Salish Mountains to the west. The scenery is characterized by vast, sprawling blue water and a jagged skyline of alpine peaks, often reflecting vibrant pink and purple hues during sunset. I captured one of these beautiful sunset evenings, as the sailboats that cruise along the western bay make their rounds before the sun goes down. In the stillness of the evening, I enjoy taking in the simplicity of the water, the wind, and boats cruising silently over the surface of the dark water.
Annie was born and raised in Montana, growing up on her family's ranch in the beautiful Smith River Valley. Growing up in Montana's wild and beautiful Landscape led to her deep love of nature and all things rural. Annie attended the Art Institute of Colorado and lived in Denver Colorado until the completion of her Interior Design degree in 2002. After working in that field for several years, Annie moved back to Montana and began her own business, focusing on her ever-growing love of photography. She began traveling the backroads and wilderness of Montana and the Rocky Mountain region and selling her photos professionally in galleries, shops, and online. She primarily searches for rural Landscapes, old barns, abandoned farmhouses, and occasionally wildlife she encounters. Her work as been featured in HGTV, Better Homes and Gardens, and featured in three books on emerging artists of the United States. She currently lives in Billings, Montana, and takes several trips during the year to gather new images.
